Medina’s The Coffee Colony: A Store That Goes Deeper Than Coffee and Tea

By Harper Finley, BEAT reporter

MEDINA, OH- Many rely on coffee or tea for energy and warmth, and the Coffee Colony is a good place to stop by for just that. Despite the name, it’s not only tea and coffee they sell, but hot cocoa, local honey, jelly, home decor, and much more that makes it a unique shop to stop by.

The owners, Sharon Lipton and her daughter, Kim Hansen, opened their shop in 1985. They just celebrated 40 years of being in business, on November 8. Lipton and Hansen opened the store because they noticed gourmet coffee was not yet a thing. Since Lipton loved coffee, she thought her hometown, Medina, would be a perfect fit for a gourmet coffee store, but didn’t realize how popular it would become.

Lipton and Hansen chose all of their flavors based on what their customers requested and their interests, giving new flavors that keep customers coming back. They source their coffees and other items in the U.S. from six different roasters. They have a collection of over 100 different varieties of coffees and teas, decaf and regular. Visitors have the option of many different flavors, including seasonal flavors like S’mores, Frosty’s Marshmallow, and EggNog, their best-selling flavor, Jamaican Me Crazy, and many more, making every customer guaranteed to find a flavor they love.

As the holidays arrive and many need gifts for the holiday season, the Coffee Colony offers just that -along with flavorful coffee and tea made with care that’s guaranteed to make a good present for anyone. Stop at the Coffee Colony owned by Lipton and Hansen and discover why this local shop has been brewing happiness for 40 years
