More Than Just Cuddles: The Reality of What Veterinarians Go Through

By Isabella Giacomazza, BEAT reporter

BRUNSWICK, OH- The ups and downs of being a veterinarian come and go. Dr. Emily Welch, veterinarian at Animal and Avian Medical Center in Brunswick, believes that some of the hardest and worst things about being a veterinarian is when surgeries don’t go as planned or when they have to deliver sad news. She also explained how it’s hard while they are also carrying the weight of the owners’ feelings. Some other things that are hard for them is how they love the animals so much but it’s emotionally tolling at the same time.

Even though there are downs to the job they also can’t forget the happy parts. In Dr. Welch’s opinion, some of her favorite parts about being a veterinarian are successful surgeries, kitten and puppies’ first visits, delivering good news to owners, seeing animals recover from illnesses, and allowing suffering patients to pass peacefully with the owners. Dr. Welch said, “All these positive moments outweigh the difficult ones and is the reason I do what I do.”

At Animal and Avian, a veterinarian explained, “There’s no such thing as a silly question - if it concerns your pet, it’s important to me. My goal is always the same as yours: to give your pet the healthiest, happiest life possible.” Through these key phrases, they build trust and compassion together every step of the way.

Also, Dr. Welch added, “Please treat your veterinarians with grace and kindness. We care just as much as you do for your pets.”

Animal and Avian is located at 4171 Center Rd in Brunswick OH 44212. If you would like to learn more about them visit their website, www.animalandavianmedicalcenter.com .
