Market 42: Bringing a Bit of Europe to Brunswick

By Cayton Blake, BEAT reporter

BRUNSWICK, OH- In Europe, taking your time and enjoying each other's company is part of day-to-day life. In artisan streets, for example, you could find a wide range of different shops, eateries, and artisan foods. Imagine picturing that, but in America. Brunswick’s Market 42 was inspired by this idea. Market 42 is a place to hang out, eat, and have fun.

Brian D’Angelo, the General Manager at Market 42, stated, “Market 42 is an innovative food hall and market that was created to provide a unique opportunity to meet the growing demand for artisanal retail and culinary experiences in the region.”

They focus on sourcing their ingredients from farm-fresh and sundry goods from all corners of Ohio. Market 42 is located on 2099 Pearl Rd. The store is over 25,000 square feet and is designed for entertainment and dining. This includes a wide variety of cantina-style restaurants which offer local cuisine and global cuisine. They have a full bar, an arcade, and an ~8,000 square outdoor pop-up space. They even offer a semi-private event space, and in May through September, “An open air outside Farmer’s Market takes place.”

D’Angelo began in retail which gave him background knowledge in customer experiences and bringing people together, which helped him when working at Market 42. “My passion for building spaces where families and friends can gather, connect, and find a sense of community is what drives my work at Market 42,” D’Angelo explained. As he moved on with his career, it naturally flowed into what he does now. He realized the combining entertainment, vendors, guests, and the community would create a whole new atmosphere that was unique to Brunswick. He explained that his goal was to help small businesses get recognition and thrive.

At the end of the day, D’Angelo’s favorite part of his job is to create a place that is for everyone. They have retail shops, food vendors, entertainment, or just a place for you to be with your family and friends. D’Angelo also shared he loves planning and coordinating events that connect the community together, by using local businesses and organizations he explained they can display how incredible the Brunswick community really is. “Market 42 provides the community with a unique gathering place where families and friends can shop, dine, attend events, and make lasting memories—all under one roof.” D’Angelo stated.
